About the Destination

Located in the Jiangnan region, the centuries-old water town of Wuzhen is known as the last town surrounded by water in China, where ancient buildings stand perfectly preserved, displaying skilful wood and stone carving. Wuzhen is also known as the ‘Land of Fish and Rice’ and the ‘Home of Silk’, being situated on fertile land and a famous centre of silk production.

The Grand Canal coursing through Wuzhen has nurtured the town’s splendid culture throughout its more than 1,300-year history. Exploring Dongzha (west area) and Xizha (east area) of the town reveals many historic and cultural sites as well as bustling water markets. Ancient traditions also remain very much alive here, including Wuzhen’s signature indigo fabric dyeing.
